The History of Marketing from one-end to another!
Before Digital Marketing the ordinary Marketing as we know it bloomed its way into the world with the rise of consumer culture during the 16th century, while some historians claim that marketing goes long back to antiquity is quite surprising, and right!
As history shows us, marketing is not a new concept that primed its way into the modern world as we know it. The practice existed during the barter exchange system, where people exchanged random products to have a livelihood.
And yet here we are still marketing the crap out of products and services till people avail or buy them, which is solid proof that marketing works.
We live in an era where the digital world is evolving at a higher pace, where everything that we can think of is digitalized in its criteria. The main reason why people prefer everything online is due to its reliability and ease. People can access anything, anywhere, and anytime, which has made people change the way they do things and has made entrepreneurs and other business organizations go online and set their footprint first on anything that hasn’t been digitalized yet, this is futuristic and scary at the same time.
See this is Futuristic and scary!
Digital Marketing And Its Impact On The Modern World
Digital Marketing has leverage on everything people do today. Marketing platforms track every digital activity of a consumer to provide them with a personalized digital advertising experience, which is behaviour specific so that advertisers can utilize their budget accordingly based on their target audience than mistargeting.
Is it safe? Well, that’s a question which is highly debated among consumers and government officials nowadays. I think personalized digital targeting is much more effective and compatible compared to other traditional marketing techniques and platforms as the traditional way does not provide a detailed targeted audience. That is not an excuse for procuring personal user data without their consent.
The only possible way is to come up with a set of rules and regulations which allows the users to forbid digital applications to procure personal data, and if the applications do require some personal data for running, the application should not be allowed to use the data for marketing purpose or take the consent of the user.
Either way, people should be given the provision to control their privacy.

The reason why advertising platforms have been optimizing their platforms to target customers is due to the increase in digital activities for the past few years.
Here’s a statistic on the increase of social media users per year starting from 2015.
5 Year social media user growth in Billions
- 2020: 3.8 Billion active users
- 2019: 3.4 Billion active users (+9.2%)
- 2018: 3.1 Billion active users (+9.0%)
- 2017: 2.7 Billion active users (+21%)
- 2016: 2.3 Billion active users (+11%)
- 2015: 2.07 Billion active users
Difference Between Retargeting And Remarketing?
For instance, if you are planning to buy a dress for a ceremony and started googling “partywear dress online”.
You found some websites interesting, and some of them had great deals to offer, but you decided to buy them later.
After some time, when you open your social media or a website, you see an ad of the same products that you viewed on the website with an extra offer just for you.
This is Retargeting you based on your online activity, while Remarketing is when you receive an email promotion or push notifications and such. This happens mostly when you sign up for a newsletter or registering on a website.
What The Future Holds For Digital Marketing?
Well, the future does hold a lot for digital marketing, such as using artificial intelligence for providing customers with a more personalized experience for increased Conversation Rate or automated chatbots that can close a sale without any human intervention or marketing wearable devices, especially smart glasses where ad pops up when they visit a store or are near a location where they are a targeted customer, the list goes on and on. The digital world has evolved at a higher rate than people expected within the past few years, and day by day, new digital trends and ideas are born.
The only thing we have to keep in mind is that we are neither far nor near to what the future holds for digital marketing.
